Society of the Hatchet The society of the Hatchet, also called the Order of the Hatchet, was established as a Spanish royal order of knighthood for the women in who in 1149 AD had defended their city against Moor invasion with hand axes. The order was resurected in 1998 by a Dame of another order as a vehicle for making awards to deserving individuals for service and/or outstanding acts of valour, e.g. firemen, police, security, EMT, military and civilians.
